http://youtu.be/yhASu2OjEcQ – thought I’d put this clip on – The group is Hotchip. I like the use of colors and how they put them together. Just some inspiration. Pretty cool clip.
Whau plant
Some images of the Whau tree which is quite well known in the area. As Marty suggested, using the image of the Whau imagery instead of the actual name or word (as suggested by Jack Weir-Whau Local Board member) was a great idea.
I’m really in favour with the color I think green at the moment, maybe? Together with the colors of the flower, subtle shades of yellow from the flower. Very refreshing, vibrant green as the images show. Maybe?
Possible ideas.

Color
Good read in regards to the color red used by Chinese and the meaning behind it. Very interesting….do we have many Chinese businesses in Rosebank 😉
And your right Marty, with us Kiwi’s it would be black, but would that be more for the sports side of NZ only? Whereas Red represented more in the Chinese culture, ie. strength, nobility, lucky, strength, life and so on which are used from cigarette packets to weddings and so on.
Is there another color for New Zealanders as red is to Chinese??? Or is it Black? Green maybe? Represent the “100%” pure image of NZ?
Typeface
I think that typeface might be House Gothic, I’m probably wrong but there are some definite similarities. That choice smacks of having a typeface that somebody was desperate to use in something. On the positive side it does allude to dominance in business, which has to be at least a little appealing (had to give them something).
Also, black doesn’t often represent achievement, although it is the colour of NZ when we head out into the world e.g All blacks etc. So I guess they were being patriotic. Unfortunately black also signifies death at a base level in Western culture. So the message is confused to say the least! Still don’t get the connection to Icehouse though…
This site has a case study of the use of red in China, so I suggest it can be related to New Zealand’s obsession with black.
